Product Description

This was a Very Special Purchase made prior to the establishment of Galeria de Ollas. The Olla was made circa 1990 - 1994, and is a Puff Fish Effigy. One can review its history in our Website: Galeria Weblog under History and Current Events. You can read how this piece was found by the origional owner Ron Schneider. In the Site's Privacy/Warranty section, see a picture of the Artist, Reynalda Quezada with the effigy. I secured this origional piece from Ron and wrote him on 8/8/08: "Ron, in the archives of our Website Weblog, October, 2006 you mention your finding a fish effigy at Price Club. By chance, is that the "puff fish" you recently sold me. I love that one. If it is, when did you purchase it." And, Ron wrote back to me that day: "Hi Mike, Just a quick reply as I’m about to walk out the door. Yes, it is the same one I sold to you. It was my introduction to Mata Ortiz pottery. I bought it late in 1994. Ron." I then wrote back to Ron go gain added information: "Ron, this is very, very interesting and something I want to explore more if you are willing. Basically, this pot is the one that got your attention and actually, you might say, initiated Galeria de Ollas. Isn't it interesting we had this pot and even a picture of Juan Quezada's sister, Reynolda WITH the pot on our Privacy/Warranty page and I didn't put 2 + 2 together. Can you please tell me how she got the pot? Did you take it to her? Many Faces tells us she began the Art some 20 years ago and that may makes it about 1980 although this one or the one she is holding may not be her first attempt. Spencer found a few pots in 1976 and after that - you know the history. I'm trying to piece together some of the history relative to you, Spencer, Juan but particularly you and how you dedicated your time to this Art. You may notice that I have increased the price for this Effigy because I really don't want to sell it. I'm looking at it as one of the corner stones of Galeria de Ollas. It is the true history of the Galeria in Puerto Vallarta. If you have any more history, pictures, thoughts you wish to share - I will keep them and use them to let more people know about our history. Can you tell me if any of the other pictures go back a long time and if there may be some history on them as well. I'm very interested and this just sparked my interest more. Thank you.
